Title: Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D Major Op. 73
Brahms Symphony No. 3 in F Major Op. 90
Artist(s): Wilhelm Furtwängler Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
Recording Info: Recorded live at the Deutsches Museum, Munich
May 7, 1952 (No. 2) and at the Titania Palast, Berlin April 27, 1954 (No. 3)
Symphony No. 2 in D Major Op. 73
1 Allegro non troppo (15:30)
2 Adagio non troppo (10:35)
3 Allegretto grazioso (Quasi andantino) (5:52)
4 Allegro con spirito (8:57)
Symphony No. 3 in F Major Op. 90
5 Allegro con brio - Un poco sostenuto - Tempo I (10:37)
6 Andante (9:48)
7 Poco allegretto (6:32)
Two marvellous performances. The second may not be as electric as the one from 1945, but it is a powerful one. About the 3rd, Furtwängler’s widow said that, after this concert in 1954, he told her that he felt that he was, at last, doing justice to this symphony. Both are very well played.
