Kempe
Wonderful more detail than any previous transfer but without being too bright as are many (Japanese) transfers!!! Thankyou

Superb
Wonderful in just about every respect. Great playing and music-making, combined with stunning Wilkie recording. It doesn't get any better than this!

Kempe live
Habe diesen genialen Dirigenten live in meiner Heimatstadt erlebt. Großartiges Konzert (Don Juan). Deshalb liegt mir die HDTT-Überspielung besonders am Herzen. Grandiose Interpretation - grandioser Klang. Alte Erinnerungen werden wach. Danke. Achim Lange

KEMPE ON FAMILIAR AND UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY
Rudolf Kempe was closely associated with the music of Richard Strauss, and this “Don Juan” has plenty of elan and dash. Kempe was a master of orchestral colour, and this emerges in “The Pines of Rome” where Kempe brings out Respighi’s postcard-like orchestration to great effect. The big record companies tended to only give us Kempe’s German repertoire, so this is a rare example of him in other areas. The orchestral playing in “The Pines of Rome” is significantly better from the Royal Philharmonic than the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in a near contemporary version conducted by Ernest Ansermet. There need be no reservations about the quality of the recording engineered by a Decca team for Readers Digest, which has plenty of atmosphere in the darker central movements of the score, but has plenty of weight and volume in the concluding ‘Pines of the Appian Way’. These legendary Readers Digest recordings certainly live up the their reputation in these high resolution transfers. Would it be possible to have Kempe’s RCA “Alpensymphonie” also from the Royal Philharmonic from this period?

Pleasant experience
Nice to hear Richard Strauss how it was conducted at that time.
