Shelly Manne & His Men – At The Black Hawk, Vol. 2 is the second installment in a series of live recordings from September 22-24, 1959, at the Black Hawk club in San Francisco. This album captures the essence of Shelly Manne’s West Coast jazz quintet, known for its interactive, spontaneous style and extended improvisations.
Unlike many polished studio recordings, this live session offers an intimate, club-like atmosphere, with Manne’s subtle yet dynamic drumming driving the ensemble forward. The album is a standout in Manne’s discography and a prime example of late-'50s live West Coast jazz.
