Pure joy!
Joy! A Pure DSD256 release transferred from a 15ips production master tape, and it is terrific. This album really shines on "An American in Paris" with the superior playing by the New York Philharmonic and with Bernstein's undivided attention as conductor. "Rhapsody in Blue" is very nicely performed, but misses some of the characterful nuance that Fiedler and Wild deliver, as well as the better sound engineering given that recording by Lewis Layton than Bernstein gets from the Columbia engineering team. But perhaps its just that I imprinted on the Fiedler/Wild account of Rhapsody, so ymmv. That said, the "An American in Paris" performance is terrific and worth the price of admission all on its own. I compared this HDTT release to my DSD54 file of the Sony SACD. The SACD is good, but this new HDTT transfer is simply more transparent, more highly resolved, with greater transient "snap" and definition. Great release!
