Musically convincing
I’ve always loved Brahm’s first piano concerto and bought this recording to have an additional version in my collection. For me, there can be no doubt at all regarding the musical qualities of this interpretation which I find completely convincing. There is enough detail in the sound of the orchestra, however, unlike some of the old jazz recordings I bought on HDTT whose recording quality I’d describe as superior to much of what is released today, here I’m slightly less happy with the sound quality as far as the orchestra is concerned. This is due to the original masters, I’m sure, maybe especially the strings were rather closely mic-ed. That is why they can sound harsh to my ears in the louder passages and there is less of a sound stage. I still strongly recommend this version for the artistic value.
HDDT HAS DONE IT AGAIN!! GREAT SOUND!!!
The sound on this is eons above the CD version released by the original label (which I have). Bravo to HDTT yet again!
