One of the best early London’s
This is one of the best of the early London’s, with nearly perfect sound and a performance to match. Szell uses modern instruments and a full-size orchestra, while Wilkinson delivers the full, rich and brilliantly warm sound that he is famous for. The stage is wide, and the dynamics are huge. The HDTT transfer from a London 4-track tape is perhaps not quite as good as the 15ips 2-track tapes that they favor, but it is still much better than my early London ffrr LP pressing.

Good, not great
Played well before the HiP, period instrument revolution, these sprightly performances sound surprisingly modern. Szell and his crack band were truly a magical baroque force, as well as being 30 years ahead of their time! Decent Columbia period sound.
