There’s something almost sculptural about Karajan’s 1964 interpretation of Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony - a performance where every phrase feels meticulously carved, every orchestral color carefully shaded. With the Berlin Philharmonic at full strength, Karajan doesn’t explore the “New World” so much as he elevates it to mythic proportions.
