Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 - Antal Dorati London Symphony
Doráti's reading of the Pathétique is expressive and emotionally intense, with careful attention to the contrasting elements within the symphony. He brings a distinctive warmth to the lyrical sections, while the darker moments feel even more potent, especially in the final Adagio movement, where the music slowly fades to a deep, contemplative silence.
The recording captures the depth of Tchaikovsky’s music without over-sentimentality, focusing on the symphony’s dramatic contrasts.
Tchaikovsky. It shows his ability to highlight both the grandeur and the delicate nuances of Tchaikovsky’s work.

Remarkable clarity and drama in an excellent reissue
This transfer has remarkable clarity, resolution and dynamics. It is fully equal to some of the best efforts Bob Witrak has given us. That he was able to create such a fine outcome from this source is a credit to his remarkable tape handling skills. Transparency, detail, dynamics abound. Bob is a true magician in recovering information from analog tape. Dorati's performance with the LSO is among the top tier of the many recordings of the Sixth Symphony that I have in my music library. It is a model of drama with utter clarity and well-managed pacing. And the recording by the Fine/Cozart Mercury Living Presence team is among their best.
