Delightful performances in Lovely, pure analogue sound
I very much enjoy simply recorded performances that capture the sound of the live performance from the audience's perspective. That is exactly what these Direct to Tape Recordings (DTR) deliver. Always using just two microphones direct to a two channel analogue tape recorder, these recordings have a relaxed simplicity to the sound that is utterly engaging. No compression, no limiting, no post-processing, just pure, simple, and highly resolved analogue sound. The Haydn and Prokofiev flute sonatas on this album receive lovely performances that are very enjoyable. Listening to them is like being invited into a private recital. The artists are very capable, their interpretations are clean, direct and delivered from the heart. I thought the Prokofiev performance particularly fine and am delighted to have it available for repeated listening into the future. All-in-all, these are skilled musicians sharing with us their love for this music. And they are recorded in as live and natural sound quality as one might wish for. HDTT's transfer to DSD128 is very clean, with no artifacts showing up to disrupt the flow of some very nice music-making.
