Two great Dvorak Concertos
Both concertos have appeared on HDTT before, and both come up sounding considerably better than before. The Violin Concerto with Miltein and Steinberg in particular has a vibrancy and bite largely lacking on the previous release - at least as it sounds on my system. Both performances are classics and require no words from me. Even if you have the previous version of the Violin Concerto, the upgrade on this occasion is well worth it.

Great performance, Marvelous transfer
The best digital version you could ever find!

Exquisite depth, detail and range
Natural sound. Easily the best digital version I have of these recordings.

One of the great performances
One of the four great analog era recordings of the Dvorak Cello Concerto, we are in good hands here. Fournier's technical mastery is always transcendent, with his approach patrician and quite lyrical. While he fails to truly dig into the juicier parts as a soloist (as compared to Starker or Rostropovich, for example), he is always musically compelling and well partnered by Szell and the Berlin. In this DGG recording, his cello is always front and center (perhaps even too much so), with a full resonant sound. The overall recorded sound by DGG is classic Tulips Stereo sound, one either loves it or one does not. But the HDTT transfer does full justice to what the engineers captured. A lovely performance and recording that I'm delighted to have once again in my music library! The earlier (1957) Nathan Milstein recording of the Violin Concerto delivers a more impactful recorded sound - robust and dynamic. The microphone capture of the orchestra more immediate. It makes me think of the recordings made by Bob Fine of Steinburg and the Pittsburg Symphony for Command Classics (I wonder...?). This is a very fine performance by Milstein and Steinberg - simply a great collaboration. And the recording quality is stellar. Another very nice transfer by HDTT! Your great work continues.
