Ricci was great an underrated...
This is a fine recording…one of the best HDTT productions I have. I met Ricci backstage in a small town, Neustadt-an-der-Weinstraße, in Germany in 1964. I believe he played Prokofiev that night, as well. I was one of two American’s in the audience so we decided to visit. He was a very nice guy and was surprised that I spoke German. He said he was working on it but needed a couple of hundred more words in his vocabulary to do what he wanted to do. He had no air of aloofness or celebrity about him. He was just a nice guy. This recording with it’s finely balanced sound is a great souvenir of that encounter.

Authentic Decca Sonics for Prokofiev
So it can be done. Lifted from lp, these great concertos give some of the truest Ansermet sound on compact disc yet. Despite OSR’s rough edges, these compelling readings stand the test of time.

Performances of sinewy strength in a great digital transfer
These dynamic performances of the Prokofiev concertos help one understand why Ruggerio Ricci was considered a lion of his generation. There is power, drive and sinewy strength in these performances. These are not "pretty" renditions, they have grit. And what a pleasure to hear in these superb transfers to DSD256! Here is yet another example of how well this new series of Vinyl Record Restorations is achieving the goals Bob Witrak set forth. They are clean, highly detailed, full frequency restorations with great dynamics and excellent capture of instrumental timbre. I say, "Bravo!" Yes, this is a 1958 Blueback LP with all the positives and negatives of that source material. But I've loved these Blueback recordings in my vinyl collection, and I'm delighted to now have them available in these superb digital transfers. Thank you, Bob! More please.
