Oh that glorious organ!
I originally purchased a budget CD of this performance a long, long time ago. It took me a few years to realize what a wonderful performance of Saint-Säens 3rd Symphony this was. What makes this performance so great is the organ. The playing and balance between the organ and the orchestra is perfect. For most of this piece, the organ provides a continuo that is present but does not dominate the orchestra. In the latter movements, the organ cuts loose with the awesome fury that only an organ is capable of. None of the multitude of CDs of this work that I own come close to achieving the proper balance as this performance does. The HDTT remastering provided a lot more orchestral detail than I have ever heard on the CD version. In one of the later movements, there is a passage played by two pianos. That passage was outright thrilling listening to the detail on the HDTT remastering. I purchased the highest resolution version, but have only listened to the DSD64 version because I need to free up some space on my audio player to load a higher resolution version. I have to compliment HDTT on their selection of music to remaster. They have remastered at least 7 performances that I consider to be my favorite performances of these works. Keep up to good work HDTT!
