"Django" has become a jazz standard and is recognized for its elegant and contemplative melody. The piece showcases the MJQ's unique blend of classical music influences, cool jazz, and blues. John Lewis, Milt Jackson (vibraphone), Percy Heath (bass), and Connie Kay (drums) comprised the original lineup of the Modern Jazz Quartet, and their refined and sophisticated approach to jazz set them apart from many of their contemporaries.
