Géza Anda's complete cycle of Mozart piano concertos, recorded with the Camerata Academica of the Salzburg Mozarteum in the 1960s and early 1970s, stands as a landmark achievement in the recorded legacy of Mozart’s music. His recordings of Piano Concertos Nos. 17 and 21 are often cited as the finest examples of his artistry.
Anda’s dual role as soloist and conductor was not only rare at the time but also a natural fit for Mozart’s concertos, which often invite a chamber music-like intimacy between soloist and orchestra.
