Very good as expected from HTDD
I expect this to be better than the various versions I have on SACD and it is. Must have if you want the definitive version.

Mravinsky's Tchaikovsky 5
This has been the reference recording of this work since its release, and needs no advocacy from me. The HDTT transfer has a vividness and directness beyond either the CD or SACD official releases. Now we only lack a HDTT transfer of Mravinsky's 4th, maybe the finest performance of the trio.

Magistralnyi
"Magistralnyi" - masterful, in Russian. What a fantastic recording of this great symphony. Mravinskyi captures the essence of the piece, it is majestic but austere, sentimental without being overly melodramatic as so many conductors out there perform it. A timeless recording! I admit I get emotional every time I listen to it... The quality of the transfer is also very clean, considering the limitations of the original recording.

The recording quality
After reading the reviews such as the one on the Positive Feedback I had a great expectation but I found otherwise. The sound was rather coarse.

Terrific recording
IMHO, this is the best recording of this symphony. Beautiful transfer. I hope that HDTT will publish the fourth symphony
