The orchestral portion of Bernstein Plays Brubeck Plays Bernstein, including the New York Philharmonic's performance of Dialogues for Jazz Combo and Orchestra, was recorded at St. George Hotel Ballroom, Brooklyn, New York, on July 9th, 1960.
This venue was a popular choice for the New York Philharmonic during that time for its superb acoustics, especially when Avery Fisher Hall (then Philharmonic Hall) was being built. The jazz tracks by the Dave Brubeck Quartet were recorded separately at Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York City.
